There are a lot of ways we can work to prevent falls. A few common ways include:
- Regularly exercising
- Getting your vision checked
- Monitoring medications that might cause dizziness
But did you know that untreated hearing loss can also contribute to increased fall risk? Data collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination showed that people with mild hearing loss were nearly three times as likely to have a history of falling. The likelihood of falls increased with worse hearing loss.
We do not know why this association exists (although there are some good theories). Treating hearing loss can be not only beneficial for our minds but might also protect us from injuries to the body!
